Creative Media Institute of Southwest Florida is the launch pad of a vision planted in the mind of CTN10-TV General Manager, Paul Lodato. With communications media in a mode of explosive growth, he realized that broadcast television, while still immensely popular, is facing growing competition as a program distribution medium with cable, satellite, internet, and cellular technologies. He realized that the future belongs to those who are prepared to embrace and utilize these emerging means of communication. Staying focused exclusively on broadcast television would result in a shrinking sphere of influence as the future unfolds.

The common denominator among these new distribution channels is the television program. The demand for programming content is virtually insatiable. Those who can produce quality programs have the skills to help meet this demand. As a result, Paul’s vision for a media resource center was born. The foundation of such a facility is training and instruction. Upon this foundation can be built avenues of marketing and distribution, consulting, and a clearing house for all things related to media and media content. The dream includes expansion from local to regional to national to international in scope and outreach.

It’s a big dream and vision, to be sure, but we feel a concept whose time has come. Our first step is setting up training in basic television production at an actual television broadcast station. Trainees can take these basic skills, enhance them with additional specialized training and experience, and step out into the future, prepared to channel their passion to live out their dreams. As the vision is planted and takes root, from it will spring opportunities (some yet undiscovered) to have an impact on our culture through the media.
